Mission Statement:
The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence supports organizations in providing quality afterschool, summer, and expanded learning experiences so
that Vermont’s children and youth have the opportunities, skills, and resources they need to become healthy, productive members of society.
Goal 1: To create a broad partnership structure that promotes positive youth development and the education of Vermont’s children and youth in creative
and non-traditional ways that extend beyond the school day.
- Objective 1A: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will increase statewide influence on issues concerning afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs by 2015 as seen through a sustained and active presence in state-level conversations and initiatives concerning education, child well-being, and positive youth development.
- Objective 1B: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will maintain a strong partnership structure with at least 15 active and established partnerships, including the addition of one to two new partnerships each year.
- Objective 1C: Each year, the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will support the coordination of efforts across state agencies around funding opportunities, professional development initiatives, and policy priorities for afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs.
- Objective 1D: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will create and support regional groups across Vermont aimed at building partnerships, developing advocacy and sustainability efforts, and providing professional development experiences and other quality initiatives.
- Objective 1E: By 2015, the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will create resources and technical assistance that increase effective local partnerships insupport of afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs through its Engaged Learners-Community Educators Initiative.
- Objective 2A: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will build a strong, informed advocacy base throughout the state with active participation in every region by 2015.
- Objective 2B: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will establish a structure to ensure dedicated and diversified funding sources for afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs in Vermont and resulting in at least one new funding stream for programs by 2015.
- Objective 2C: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will develop an informed and inclusive state policy agenda including the identification of at least three key issues per year and the development of at least two subsequent actions to communicate these issues during the legislative session.
- Objective 2D: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will conduct at least one research project each year to inform policy makers and state leaders, as well as the greater afterschool, summer, and expanded learning community.
- Objective 2E: Each year the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will maintain communications with all three offices of the Congressional Delegation and regularly inform program partners and members of policy developments and discussions at the federal level having an impact upon afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs.
- Objective 3A: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will have a comprehensive and flexible professional development system in place that meets the diverse needs of afterschool, summer, and expanded learning professionals and participation in these offerings will increase by 10% each year.
- Objective 3B: Each year, 80% of member programs will participate in at least one type of evaluation available through the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence and will report their results on an annual basis.
- Objective 3C: Each year the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will have a system in place through its Engaged Learners-Community Educators Initiative to identify, evaluate, and replicate best and next practices in afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs with a specific focus on engaged learners, school-community partnerships, and family engagement.
- Objective 3D: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will work with state agencies to ensure that Vermont’s policies regarding professional development support the development of individuals who can provide high-quality afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs for children and youth and that these policies are effective and applicable across the spectrum of different program types.
- Objective 4A: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will continue to build a robust and effective governance structure able to pass all aspects of a comprehensive organizational audit each year, including the full participation of the partnership board, a healthy relationship with the fiscal agent, and appropriate guidance and oversight for the organization.
- Objective 4B: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will have a flexible and effective staffing structure each year with clear job descriptions and appropriate skill levels and meeting the highest levels of excellence in all work areas.
- Objective 4C: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will maintain or increase its financial level each year working to ensure that the organization has adequate funding for all areas of work (partnership, advocacy, quality) as well as reserve funds equal to at least three months of operating costs.
- Objective 4D: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan including outreach across multiple formats and resulting in a 10% increase in users each year in each of the following areas: Facebook fans, email subscribers, and unique visitors to the website.
- Objective 4E: The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will have a viable and vibrant membership organization, with over 200 members by 2015, serving and connecting professionals working in afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs in Vermont.
- Objective 4F: By 2015, the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence will have the appropriate structures in place to effectively award and manage program grants totaling at least $100,000/year.
